Rockville, Bethesda Veneer Dentist  :
Veneers can be made of two different materials. They can be porcelain such as a Lumineer or they can be made of a composite resin. Porcelain veneers are fabricated in a lab and take about two weeks to make. They can last a lifetime without staining. You can not stain glazed porcelain with smoke or coffee. With porcelain veneers you will never need to whiten your teeth. Resin veneers are made the same day directly on your teeth by Dr Baer. This material can stain and chip. Resin veneers look great at the time of placement but they require regular care to maintain their appearance. Veneers are commonly used to restore chipped or worn down teeth. They are also used to idealize teeth that are discolored, misaligned or chipped. Veneers utilize bonding techniques to secure a thin sheet of porcelain to the tooth. Veneers have a common property to enamel. Both enamel and veneers are translucent. This means that when light hits the surface it will penetrate rather than immediately reflect off the surface. Because veneers have this same characteristic as enamel, it provides a sense of depth and a very life-like appearance. There are certain situations where veneers are not advised such as active gum disease or insufficient tooth structure. Your dentist will inform you if you are a good candidate for dental veneers. Proper home care and diet is essential for the longevity of the veneer.
