Teeth Whitening
Bethesda Dental Works uses Zoom!® Got its name from its speed. It's considered one of the fastest teeth whitening systems and can fit easily into the most hectic of schedules. Your teeth should look up to eight shades lighter in just one hour. It is the whitening system that is used on shows such as "Extreme Makeover". Once it is determined that your teeth and gums are healthy enough to handle bleaching, your dentist will spread a gel on your teeth. Zoom!® one-hour whitening is a light-activated teeth whitening treatment using low heat. As the hydrogen peroxide in the gel breaks down, it allows oxygen to enter your teeth and bleach the dentin and enamel. This procedure will be done in intervals and will be complete within an hour. Bethesda Dental Works recommends that you have had your teeth cleaned within the last month to receive the best results. You can even have them cleaned immediately prior to the procedure.

Rockville, Bethesda Adult Invisalign
Invisalign is the use of clear retainers (liners) to straighten teeth. It is a great alternative to wires and brackets. It can not be used in all cases so we also offer full bracket treatment. Invisalign has been proven to successfully treat a wide range of orthodontic problems. Invisalign is a big part of many patients treatment at Bethesda Dental. Dr Kimberly Baer is a certified Invisalign practitioner. Invisalign provides you with a number of key advantages over conventional metal braces that make it a very attractive alternative to traditional orthodontic treatment, so the Invisalign cost does not seem so significant. The aligner trays are virtually invisible and have almost no impact on your speech. The aligner trays will also allow you to keep better oral care while undergoing treatment, something that is extremely difficult to do with traditional braces. Getting braces means changing your lifestyle while being treated, but with Invisalign you can go about your life without anyone noticing that you are wearing braces! We offer a comprehensive children's orthodontic program. Dr Baer has studied to use the most conservative means to get the best results. Sometimes if we start a phase of treatment while the child is young by making minor adjustment we can eliminate the need or at least the amount of time they are to wear their braces. Schedule an examination with Dr Baer to go over your possible treatment options.

Rockville, Bethesda Dental Ozone Provider
Ozone is a molecule consisting of three atoms of oxygen. It is produced naturally by lightning and by various industrial processes. Ozone can be used in dentistry with no side effect and no contraindications with other medicine or any medical disorders the patient may have. Here are a few ways in which Bethesda Dental uses ozone therapy: 1. Rinse and gargle with ozonated water. This is used to treat oral abscesses, periodontal problems, sore throats, and ulcerations. Ozonated water is used at Bethesda Dental in all the operatories for irrigation. 2. Prevent tooth decay and maintain periodontal health with ozone. A custom tray is made that fits over the teeth and gums. Ozone gas is passed into the tray for a period of time and the treatment is repeated every few months. There are no side effects or chemicals involved. 3.Prevent a root canal or extraction with ozone. An exposed nerve is washed with ozonated water followed by ozone gas that often prevents the nerve from dying, thus making a root canal unnecessary. 4.Disinfect a tooth with ozone before performing a root canal or restoration. The tooth is composed of many tubules that may contain harmful bacteria. Ozonated water and gas can permeate these tubules and kill the bacteria. 5.Treat pain in the temporomandibular joint with ozone. We can inject ozone gas directly into the temporomandibular joint for the purpose of killing microorganisms which studies show can be the source for TMJ disorders. It also may reduce the inflammation and promote new cartilage growth. When ozone molecules split into single oxygen atoms, they can react when coming in contact with a contaminant. Ozone is so reactive that it never fails to initiate this reactive activity. The reduction of air borne infections is scientifically proven. (Jakab GJ, Hmieleski RR, 1988, Wolcott JA, et al, 1982). This reaction is all done through the single atom oxidizing the contaminants. As this reaction takes place, it destroys all the contaminants it comes in contact with by changing its physical properties, resulting in contaminant no longer being toxic or able to reproduce. The additional ozone changes back to pure oxygen, thus making it environmentally friendly.
Rockville, Bethesda Veneer Dentist
Veneers can be made of two different materials. They can be porcelain such as a Lumineer or they can be made of a composite resin. Porcelain veneers are fabricated in a lab and take about two weeks to make. They can last a lifetime without staining. You cannot stain glazed porcelain with smoke or coffee. With porcelain veneers you will never need to whiten your teeth. Resin veneers are made the same day directly on your teeth by Dr Baer. This material can stain and chip. Resin veneers look great at the time of placement but they require regular care to maintain their appearance. Veneers are commonly used to restore chipped or worn down teeth. They are also used to idealize teeth that are discolored, misaligned or chipped. Veneers utilize bonding techniques to secure a thin sheet of porcelain to the tooth. Veneers have a common property to enamel. Both enamel and veneers are translucent. This means that when light hits the surface it will penetrate rather than immediately reflect off the surface. Because veneers have this same characteristic as enamel, it provides a sense of depth and a very life-like appearance. There are certain situations where veneers are not advised such as active gum disease or insufficient tooth structure. Your dentist will inform you if you are a good candidate for dental veneers. Proper home care and diet is essential for the longevity of the veneer.
Rockville, Bethesda Oral Sedation
Dr Baer has offered sedation dentistry for over several years to the Bethesda, Rockville, and Montgomery County area. Bethesda Dental Works believes that your dental experience should not be stressful and therefore incorporates medication when the patient and Dr. Baer feel necessary. Anxiety Free Dentistry protocols have been used safely for over 30 years with millions of dental procedures. Before starting any dental care, we review your medical history and explain how Anxiety Free Dentistry can work for you. We want you to feel good about going forward toward a healthy new smile. Dr. Baer has had training with D.O.C.'s, a dental sedation training group. Dr. Baer offers sedation for any type of dental appointment. To get started you need to schedule a consult for sedation. On the day of your appointment, you'll take medication...a pill, in our office. Our experienced clinical team will make certain that you're relaxed and completely comfortable. We monitor you very closely while you are sedated. Many patients feel NO DISCOMFORT whatsoever during and after treatment, and have little or no memory of the visit. The type of medication that is used is dependent on the type and length of procedure to be done that day. The patient and Dr. Baer discuss the treatment options prior to the appointment.
Rockville, Bethesda Pediatrics Dental
Bethesda Dental Works and Dr. Baer and Dr. Zavareei believe that once your child is old enough to sit in the dental chair for 10-15 minutes it is time to start their regular check-ups. It is best to have them comfortable in the dental office and see it as a fun positive experience. You do not want your child's first time to be when they fall and chip a tooth. Bethesda Dental incorporates the latest technology in preventative care for children and adults. We can prevent cavities from forming with the right consistent care. Sealants are a big part of the decrease in cavities in our youth. We do not use any mercury or fluoride materials with our pediatric patients. We often remove decay with ozone; an all natural oxygen treatment which can at times allow us to avoid traumatic drilling. We also treat all teeth with ozone before sealing them. We offer orthodontic treatment with a philosophy that prevention and early treatment is our goal.
Rockville, Bethesda Mercury Removal
Dr. Baer has been trained in the technique of mercury amalgam removal. We have a special air filtration system that is utilized along with supplemental oxygen for the patient. Dr. Baer along with the staff wear special safety masks and remove the mercury fillings with a special suction. We offer metal free dentistry with all porcelain restorations. We use all natural fluoride-free materials and offer our patients natural products to use in their homecare. Bethesda Dental offers the lastest technology in ozone treatment. This will allows us to treat all types of infections including decay using no chemical, only oxygen.
Rockville, Bethesda Lumineers
Lumineers are very thin strong porcelain veneers. They can be as thin as a contact lens therefore in some cases little to no tooth structure needs to be removed. They are instant braces by within two weeks making your teeth appear perfectly straight. Bethesda Dental has been using Lumineers with its patients for years. Dr. Kimberly Baer is a Certified Lumineer practitioner and wears Lumineers herself. Lumineers painlessly create permanent smiles without dreaded shots, grinding or removing tooth structure. Whether your teeth are stained, unevenly spaced or crooked - even if you have crowns or bridgework, Lumineers by Cerinate take away the trauma of invasive dental procedures to bring you a dramatically healthier beautiful smile. In just two dental visits to our office, LUMINEERS provides a custom made smile clinically proven to last up to 20 years.
Rockville, Bethesda Dental Implants
Dr Baer has practiced implant dentistry in the Rockville, Bethesda, and Montgomery County area for many years. If you are missing one or more teeth and wish to eat your favorite foods, increase your chewing ability, and improve your appearance, speech, and self-esteem, then you are a candidate for dental implants. At Bethesda Dental we do both parts of the procedure. Dr Baer places the implant root and then restores the implant with a crown. We often do same day implants. This is when we place the dental implant and the crown on the same day. In the past, dentists would try to keep or replace teeth with treatments such as root canals, bridges, and fixed or removable dentures. Unfortunately, a significant number of root canal treated teeth fail, bridges require that healthy adjacent teeth be cut down and removable dentures can often be unstable and require the use of sticky adhesives. Dental implants are a solution to these problems, and many of the concerns associated with natural teeth are eliminated, including dental decay. We use Ozone therapy with our implant procedures. The allows us to use a natural remedy to aid in the avoidance of infection.

Rockville, Bethesda TMJ
The NTI is used to treat a myriad of problems, such as: TMD, Bruxism (teeth grinding), chronic tension headaches, and migraines. The NTI is a small acrylic appliance that is customized in our office in one visit. The NTI works by preventing your back teeth from touching, thereby preventing jaw clenching. With prolonged clenching and grinding this induces headaches, stiff necks and eventually your tooth structure is worn away, making the tooth weak and susceptible to cracks, leaks, and eventually breaks. The NTI is a dental guard that can be worn at night or in the daytime. It protects your teeth from being worn down by clenching and grinding. It is also used for the prevention of migraines and neck pain that can sometimes come with these habits. It is a good alternative to a full night guard that can be difficult or uncomfortable for some people to wear. For more information as to its uses you can visit the following sites:
